Men's Collar Trends for 2012

Men's Collar Trends for 2012

CAFÉ COTON will continue to promote high collars for dress shirts.  Indeed, unless you are an actor, or a musician going to the Grammy’s, an elegant suit will be better complemented by a substantial collar.  The high collar also creates an ideal framing for a medium sized tie knot.  Having the shirt collar rising above the suit collar by half an inch should be the norm.

Being the French cutaway (full-spread) or the Classic French collar (semi-spread) for the EXCLUSIVE® and the Slim-Fit collections, or the High Classic French collar (semi-spread) for the SELECTION® or the COUTURE®, all CAFÉ COTON collars can be worn with a tie or open – in which case we advise men to keep the two top buttons unbuttoned (our second button is positioned slightly higher that the norm for that purpose).

Of course, CAFÉ COTON also offers shorter collars as well, but these are dedicated to our more casual chic shirt styles, such as SÉRIE LIMITÉE® and SIGNATURE® for the short French collar, or MÉTROPOLITAIN® for the “cricket” (short extreme cutaway).

The CAFÉ COTON button-down collar is decidedly modern as it is a full spread with buttons.  Of course, the EXCLUSIVE® button-down collar does not have collar stays, but the interfacing that is sewn inside the collar reinforces the shape of the collar, making it perfect for wearing ties. When the collar is open, unbuttoning the collar wing buttons adds to the casual look.
